Paramount has set John Singleton (Four Brothers, Boyz n the Hood, Shaft) to direct and blockbuster producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) to shepherd The Wheelman, a live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft console game Wheelman, according to Variety. Vin Diesel, the main character and producer of the game, which launched last month, will star in the movie.
The game story-line revolves around an undercover operative and highly skilled driver, who infiltrates the criminal underworld of Barcelona to gather information about a covert heist. According to the report, the adaptation will focus on the driver coming out of retirement to protect a woman from his past.
Rich Wilkes, who wrote the Diesel action film xXx, as well as scripts for the upcoming Kung Fu feature film and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, wrote the script, with Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell handling rewrite duties.
This won’t be the first car film for Singleton, having directed 2 Fast 2 Furious, the sequel that Diesel wasn’t involved in.
