According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Slade, who directed 30 Days of Night, is attached to helm Eclipse, the third adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling Twilight series of books. Summit Entertainment has just signed Slade to the project, which is expected to hit theaters on June 30th, 2010.
Twilight and New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, will also pen Eclipse, which follows heroine Bella Swan as she nears graduation while trying to navigate the dangers of the ongoing vampire-werewolf struggle. As mysterious murders turn up around Seattle, a malicious vampire seeks revenge and Bella’s romance with Edward Cullen becomes complicated.
The second installment in the series, New Moon, is currently in production with director Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass). It is set for a November 20th, 2009 bow.
Slade directed the thriller Hard Candy; has been attached to the Neil Gaiman adaptation Neverwhere for Jim Henson Productions; and was one of the potential directors for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
