Variety reports that New Regency is set to co-produce the Allen Hughes-directed drama Broken City, with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe attached to star. Broken City, written by Brian Tucker, will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
The New York-set story centers on a cop-turned-private investigator, who, while attempting to turn his life around, finds himself thrust in the middle of the seedy backroom politics of a corrupt mayoral election.
New Regency founder Arnon Milchan, who’s taking on a more active role in the studio, has reportedly stated that he wants to begin making edgier fare similar to the films Regency put out in the 1990s, like Heat and L.A. Confidential.
Regency also recently agreed to co-finance Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film Noah and is developing the Brad Pitt-starring The Gray Man.
