Fluid Comics’ DevaShard, which recently previewed at San Diego Comic-Con, is making its way to the big screen, courtesy of Vanquish Motion Pictures.
Vanquish toppers Jay Douglas and Nav Gupta won an apparently fierce bidding war for the 25 issue series DevaShard, sparked by its successful debut at the Con, and have tapped Heather Kenealy – who worked with the pair on the upcoming action indie feature Hour of the Assassins – to pen the screenplay, from a treatment by Underworld co-creator, actor and comics guru Kevin Grevioux, who will also executive produce the film.
DevaShard, crafted by Fluid Comics’ Zen, Keith Burns and Johnny Tam, is inspired by Asian mythology, centering on two forsaken sons – one born of darkness, the other of light – who are struggling to find their place in a grim world riddled with corrupt kingdoms, cursed demons and terrifying magic. Fluid Comics’ Simon Squibb and Helen Griffiths are publishing the comic series, which has been met with rave reviews since its Asia release.
“The densely diverse world and characters which DevaShard possesses is just too damn cool not to be seen on screen,” said Douglas.
Currently, Douglas and Gupta are also producing the globe-trotting adventure video game Broken Sword with Radar Pictures, while Grevioux recently prepped the indie comics The Pale Horseman and I, Frankenstein, the latter of which is also headed to theaters as a live-action monster movie (SEE HERE).
I for one, can’t wait to see what film production designers can do visually with the work of artist Simon Bisley, who I’ve been a fan of for years.
