At a press conference during the 12th Shanghai International Film Festival on Sunday, actress Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) said that she’ll star in an upcoming martial arts film to be directed by John Woo, who saw recent success with his two part historical war epic Red Cliff. That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Yeoh went on to tell reporters that the Chinese-language film will begin shooting in China this September, and that Woo will share directing duties on the film – tentatively called The Sword and the Martial Arts World – with Taiwanese filmmaker Su Chao-pin, who directed the horror film Silk.
Yeoh’s recent roles in Memoirs of a Geisha and Far North have shifted towards drama, but she did appear in the Vin Desiel sci-fi vehicle Babylon A.D. and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, both of which were action-oriented films.
