Simon West is directing Jason Statham, Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland in the long-in-development remake of The Mechanic, and a gun-filled poster for the project was released today on Cinematical. The film, based on one of the best cult action films of the 1970’s, centers on Arthur Bishop (Statham), a ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It’s a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But after his mentor and close friend Harry (Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead. The mission grows complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop’s trade.
The big question is, will the new version of the film, end in the same diabolical way as the original. I won’t give it away, in case you don’t know how things unfolded.
The Mechanic also stars Mini Anden, Katarzyna Wolejnio, Christa Campbell, Ada Michelle Loridans, Eddie J. Fernandez, Nick Jones, Jeff Chase, Beau Brasso, J.D. Evermore and Monica Acosta, and it hits theaters on January 28, 2011.

The original film, The Mechanic (also called Killer of Killers), was released in 1972, and was directed by Michael Winner. The film starred Charles Bronson as Arthur Bishop, along with Jan-Michael Vincent, Jill Ireland, and Keenan Wynn.
