Production began today on Bait, the long-awaited 3D killer sharks film being directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction), according to Filmbiz. Bait 3D is the first official co-production between Australia and Singapore. The production was previously announced for July and again for August, but according to the report, had been repeatedly pushed back.
Bait centers on a freak tsunami which traps shoppers and a pack of sharks in a flooded supermarket, and will film in Warner Roadshow studios in Australia, with a previously reported budget of $30 million. Production is through Pictures in Paradise, Story Bridge Films and Arclight Films with Singapore’s Blackmagic Design providing post-production. Singapore’s Widescreen Media is handling the 3D technology.
Arclight is handling international sales of Bait and had previously reported nabbing more than 24 pre-sales deals with overseas distributors.
