Emma Stone, from the recently released Easy A, is circling the female lead in the long in development 21 Jump Street film adaptation, opposite Jonah Hill, according to Variety. The story comes from Hill, along with Michael Bacall, who wrote the script. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs director Phil Lord is set to helm 21 Jump Street, starting in early 2011. It may not be too far of a stretch to go from a children’s animated film to a teen cop drama, depending on the direction the studio chooses. However, I’m guessing my vision of a gritty cop thriller, with students blowing each other away in the lunchroom, is probably out the window.
Also according to the same report, Stone has also been added to a list that includes Lily Collins, Teresa Palmer and Mia Wasikowska, for one of two female leads in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot film. Sony had no comment but apparently Stone would play a new lead role that isn’t Mary Jane Watson.
(500) Days of Summer helmer Marc Webb has taken the directing chair from Sam Raimi, and he’ll be working from a James Vanderbilt script.
Stone’s newest film, Easy A, was considered a box office success, bringing in more than $18 million. She also garnered critical support for that performance, as well as her roles in Superbad and Zombieland – which has been greenlit for a sequel.
