Avatar director James Cameron’s 1994 blockbuster espionage action film True Lies, is headed to ABC television as a weekly series, according to THR Livefeed. ABC has made a script deal for the project, with Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, Fox TV producing and Rene Echevarria as writer/showrunner and co-executive producer.
If greenlit, the project will mark the Avatar director’s first TV series since his Fox sci-fi drama Dark Angel, which aired from 2000-2002 and launched the career of series star Jessica Alba.
No word on any actors attached to the show, or if the original film’s stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis – who played spy husband Harry Tasker and kept-in-the-dark wife Helen Tasker – will make cameo appearances.
