After Dark Films has announced the fifth title for its new “Originals” series – titled Fertile Ground, and released a brand new image from the film as well.
After Dark chief Courtney Solomon seeks to continue the momentum of After Dark Originals “A New Brand of Fear” with the announcement of Fertile Ground, a film co-written by filmmaker Adam Gierasch (Autopsy, Night of the Demons) and Jace Anderson.
Fertile Ground stars Leisha Hailey (The L Word) and Gale Harold (Queer as Folk, Desperate Housewives), and centers on two young women – Emily and Nate Weaver – that leave the city for the rural comfort of Nate’s ancestral home in the country. Once there, Emily is plagued by horrifying visions and haunted by the ghosts inhabiting their isolated new home. When Nate’s behavior undergoes a strange and fearful metamorphous, Emily fears she might be the latest target in a murderous tradition.
Fertile Ground and the other seven After Dark Films’ Originals are scheduled for a January 2011 release, in conjunction with Lionsgate.
After Dark Films made an unprecedented commitment to the production of eight original horror films this year under the After Dark Originals “A New Brand of Fear” label, continuing the Company’s mantra of supporting up and coming feature directors. The creation of the Originals slate is another example of After Dark’s commitment to the independent film industry. Unlike Horrorfest – 8 Films to Die For, After Dark Originals are wholly financed and produced by After Dark Films.
After Dark was founded in 2006 by filmmaker Courtney Solomon and real estate financier Allan Zeman, and is best known for its creation of After Dark Horrorfest – 8 Films to Die For which, in its first year, became the first film festival in history to make the Top 10 at the national box office.
