A new biopic on iconic martial artist and actor Bruce Lee, titled Bruce Lee, My Brother, goes into production in a few days, starring Aarif Lee (Echoes of the Rainbow) as Bruce Lee and screen newcomer Jennifer Tse as Lee’s girlfriend, according to FilmBusinessAsia.
The new film is being directed by Raymond Yip, who co-directed Warlords with Jet Li and Andy Lau, and also stars Angela Gong, MC Jin, Hanjin, Charles Ying and Wilfred Lau.
According to the report, the announcement was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s birth, who was born on Nov 27, 1940 in San Francisco and died in Hong Kong at age 32 of cerebral edema.
Lee’s legend also inspired the recent films Ip Man and Ip Man 2 and The Legend Is Born: Ip Man, an unofficial prequel to the Ip Man pair of films. Wong Kar-wai (My Blueberry Nights, Chungking Express) is also in production on The Grand Master aka First Generation Master, another telling of the story of Lee’s first master. The Grand Master stars Ziyi Zhang, Chen Chang and Tony Leung Chiu Wai as Ip Man.
