According to Latino Review, that recently posted Mortal Kombat short film was actually a test video shot for Warner Brothers in an attempt to get funding for an R-rated feature film project.
The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who helmed the Fame remake last year, and featured Michael Jai White as Jacks (Jax), Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Lateef Crowder as Baraka, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, and martial artist Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage.
The prospect of an rated R version of Mortal Kombat movie should be exciting news for fans of the game, who had to endure a watered-down PG-13 version in 1995. While the fights in that film were very well done, the film lacked the blood effects that make the game franchise so much fun.
There’s also a project on IMDB called Mortal Kombat: Devastation, that’s being written by Oren Uziel, so this must be the “trailer” for that project.
