Variety reports that action auteur Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp is in pre-production on a 3D sci-fi action film titled Section 8, with Stephen St. Leger and James Mather are attached to direct. The script is by St. Leger and Mather, along with Besson, who will also produce the project.
St. Leger and Mather came to EuropaCorp’s attention for their technically cutting-edge digital short manhunt thriller Prey Alone.
Section 8 takes place in a prison orbiting 50 miles above the earth, that houses 500 of the world’s most dangerous prisoners, who are kept asleep by sophisticated techniques… that is, until they suddenly awaken.
The project apparently requires extensive visual effects, and will have a long pre-production period, but EuropaCorp aims to shoot late spring or early summer, according to EuropaCorp partner Pierre-Ange Le Pogam.
The company is also hard at wok on the film Brick Mansion, a U.S. remake of the martial arts action-thriller District 13, which was the directorial debut of Taken helmer Pierre Morel, and recently screened Richard Berry’s French-language revenge thriller 22 Bullets (L’immortel), which stars Jean Reno, at this year’s Berlin.
