It’s been established that Summit Entertainment has already considered extending the Twilight franchise by splitting Stephenie Meyer’s fourth book, Breaking Dawn, into two films. In fact, News In Film is already reporting that the series finale will indeed be strewn in two parts.
Now THR’s RiskyBusiness reports that the bigwigs over at Summit are also seriously toying with the idea of shooting the last movie (or two) in 3D.
While there’s no question third dimension would add to ticket sales, the report rightfully brings up an important issue with the prospect… fan rebellion. Apparently some diehards have already knocked on Summit’s door, asking the mini-major not to do it.
Summit needs to make a decision on both fronts by the end of the month, in order to meet its production deadlines. Breaking Dawn is tentatively set to be released sometime in 2011.
Meanwhile, Deadline claims both Breaking Dawn films will go into production in mid-October and that producers are seeking “high-end” directors. Chris Weitz is not expected to return to the franchise despite rumors.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which David Slade is directing, is scheduled to be in theaters on June 30th, 2010, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Ashley Greene, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, Gil Birmingham and Christian Serratos.
