Worst Previews reports that Mania spoke with producer Stephen L’Heureux (100 Feet) and unearthed some info about the status of the long-awaited sequel to Sin City.
L’Heureux confirmed that Sin City 2 will go into production in the second half of 2010. However unlike the original, which used the graphic novels as a blueprint for the script and story boards, Sin City 2 will be based on an original screenplay by Frank Miller, who will also once again co-direct with Robert Rodriguez.
The producer also says that Miller is working on an adaptation of his early 90s comic series Hard Boiled, which he’s attached to direct. No word on whether he’ll get some help from his sometimes collaborator Rodriguez.
L’Heureux elaborated on Hard Boiled saying…
“With Sin City just on the horizon I don’t think we’d be able to do it with Frank right away. As simple as Sin City seems, it’s a very complex scheduling with all these actors and it’s a very demanding shoot to be on a sound stage all day long. We have to space it for Frank. There’s also talk, of course, of Sin City 3.”
L’Heureux is also attached to produced Sin City 3, currently scheduled for release in 2012.
Rumored to be attached to Sin City 2 are Rosario Dawson as Gail, Powers Boothe as Senator Roark, Rachel Weisz as Ava Lord, Mickey Rourke as Marv, Michael Madsen as Bob, Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute, Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan, Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy, Devon Aoki as Miho, and Johnny Depp as an as-yet-unnamed character.
