It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is simply a hilarious show. Yes, somewhat one-dimensional at times, and possibly reaching a crescendo at this point; but an always funny, always inventive quality piece of television. ‘It’s Always Sunny‘ could reinvent itself in future seasons by including some variations on the current characters and maybe even adding some fresh faces, by whatever happens, the writers, cast and producers of the show have much to be proud of.

Rob McElhenney (Mac) was brilliant throughout this season, with the unending desire to show off his inept karate skills. Charlie Day (Charlie) was as funny as ever. And Kaitlin Olsen (Dee) did a great job of bringing her character Dee into the spotlight a bit more.

However, episodes like America’s Next Top Paddy’s Billboard Model Contest and The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover lacked the originality of the otherwise inventive string of episodes this season, while Mac and Charlie Die (a two-parter) were two of the best of the show’s four year run.

While there were some episodes that landed with a thud, overall, Season 4 of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was a winner, and fans will want to get their hands on the three disc DVD set, which hit stores on September 15th.

Special Features

Bonus material, all of which is housed on Disc Three of the set, includes The Nightman Cometh Live!, a live stage performance of the season finale, featuring the cast of the show performing in a Hollywood stage. Some of the hardcore group of fans that make up the cult following of the show, were interviewed on line, talking about their favorite episodes and moments from the show’s four year run. Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life features Glenn Howerton in character, reading from his “memoirs”, revealing some of his many sexual encounters, including those with geishas and other assorted women. Rounding out the bonus material is an uproarious Blooper Reel.
