Screen Gems has contracted with James Woods, Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell and Willa Holland (The O.C., upcoming Legion) to star in Straw Dogs, the Rod Lurie-directed reimagining of Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 cult classic film, according to Variety.
Lurie will direct the film from his own script, which already has James Marsden (X-Men) attached to star as a Hollywood screenwriter who accompanies his wife (Kate Bosworth) as she returns home to Mississippi, where her ex-boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard), a former high school football star, sees her return as an opportunity to get her back.
The original Straw Dogs starred Dustin Hoffman, Susan George, Peter Vaughan, T.P. McKenna and Del Henney.
According to the report, shooting began yesterday in Shreveport, Louisiana, with Marc Frydman and Gilbert Dumontet producing with Lurie.
