Well, according to the folks over at Bloody-Disgusting, hell yeah.
The site posted new details on Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, which he’s been developing as a feature ever since it debuted as a faux trailer in Grindhouse. Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis are said to be teaming up to co-direct and start shooting Machete on July 29th. That must be the day he gets back from Comic-Con.
According to the report, Robert De Niro is going to Senator McLaughlin (played in the trailer by Jeff Fahey); Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious, Lost) is set playing Luz; Danny Trejo is returning as the Mexican agent of revenge Machete; and comedian Jonah Hill (Superbad) will play Julio.
I wonder if De Niro will pop up at the Con, and shock everyone! That would be choice.
Machete is a Mexican former government “federale” with a talent for using machetes as human butchering tools, who’s laying low as a day laborer, until he’s double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.
