French comedic-crime-dramas can be quite shocking. One minute, you can have two people laughing buoyantly at someone’s jokes, and the next minute, someone falls out of the trunk of a car, bloodied with no I.D. The great thriller With A Friend Like Harry had that sorta vibe. While The Girl From Monaco doesn’t seem to have such a sharp edge, the set up and story-line leads me to believe there’s a shocking twist somewhere in here. Plus one of the director’s previous efforts is a film titled Comment j’ai tué mon père, or How I Killed My Father.
Magnolia Pictures has posted a new trailer for The Girl From Monaco (La fille de Monaco), which will be released in U.S. theaters on July 3rd, 2009. The Anne Fontaine-directed French dramedy stars Fabrice Luchini, Louise Bourgoin, Roschdy Zem, Stéphane Audran, Jeanne Balibar and Gilles Cohen.
The story follows a brilliant and neurotic attorney (Luchini), who goes to Monaco to defend a famous criminal. But, instead of focusing on the case, he falls for a beautiful she-devil (Bourgoin), a situation that turns him into a complete wreck. Hopefully, his zealous bodyguard (Zem) will step in and put everything back in order – or not.
