According to The Hollywood Reporter, sequel rights to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City, are being shopped around Hollywood, meaning Dimension Films may have lost screen rights to the graphic novel series.
According to reports, The Weinstein Company and Dimension maintain that they hold the rights to any sequels to the film, but producers say they have been in discussions regarding the series rights by representatives on behalf of Miller’s estate, who are seeking a new place to set up a sequel.
Rumors that Dimension had lost the rights first surfaced several weeks ago but were put to end by TWC attorney Bert Fields, who called them “hogwash.”
After Sin City’s release, Dimension Films quickly put a sequel into development, with Angelina Jolie in discussions to play a major role. The project then proceeded to development-hell, and has been there ever since.
It is unclear if Rodriguez, who directed Sin City and has strong ties to TWC and Frank Miller, would be involved with a potential sequel.
