Fifty Dead Men Walking is based on the true-life story Martin McGartland, a young man from west Belfast who is recruited by the British Police to spy on the IRA in the late 1980s. He works his way up the ranks as a volunteer for the IRA, saving lives in the process; until he is exposed, captured and tortured to within an inch of his life.
The upcoming thriller was written and directed by Kari Skogland (The Stone Angel) and stars Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess, Kevin Zegers, Natalie Press and Rose McGowan. The film is due in UK theaters on April 10, 2009, but doesn’t currently have a U.S. release date.
