Threshold Entertainment and Platinum Studios are teaming up with Top Cow to bring the comic Aphrodite IX to the big screen, and the film will be shot in 3-D, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Aphrodite IX follows the exploits of a cyborg assassin who achieves self-awareness and begins searching for her origins.
“This is just the kind of franchise we love: a visually stunning world, amazing effects, a great story and a hot, kick-ass babe in the lead,” Threshold producer Larry Kasanoff said. “What could be better?”
When Top Cow adapted its Mark Millar and JG Jones’-created comic Wanted into a film for Universal, starring Angelina Jolie, it turned into a franchise, and grossed $339 million. I’m sure producers are hoping for the same magic with Aphrodite IX.
Platinum Studios is also developing Atlantis Rising and Cowboys and Aliens at DreamWorks, with producers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci (Transformers).
