Director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile, Lucky You) is in negotiations to helm the long-in-development action thriller Gemini Man for Touchstone Pictures, from a script by David Benioff (The Kite Runner), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gemini Man revolves around a brilliant, aging assassin attempting to leave the trade, whose employers dispatch a clone of his younger self to eliminate. Apparently an older actor with a long career would be cast, and his younger likeness may be digitally grafted onto a stuntman’s body.
Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer is shepherding the project, along with Don Murphy, who set the project up originally in 1997 from a pitch from Darren Lemke.
Several writers have worked on the script since then, including Jonathan Hensleigh, who has collaborated with Bruckheimer on Con Air, Armageddon and Gone in Sixty Seconds.
