Jens Jonsson – who directed the indie favorite The King of Ping Pong and the shorts Linerboard, Brother of Mine and Fragile – is attached to write and direct The Leisure Seekers for Sharp Independent, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Leisure Seeker is based on a new novel by Michael Zadoorian, and tells the story of an elderly couple who, against the advice of their family, take a road trip down Route 66 to spend their remaining time on their own terms.
The studio is expected the film to follow in the footsteps of others on redemptive aging, including The Bucket List and Gran Torino.
The King of Ping Pong took the world dramatic jury prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Fest and Jonsson nabbed a Silver Bear at Berlin in 2002 for his short Brother of Mine.
