David Bowers, who helmed Flushed Away, is directing the upcoming Summit Pictures’ film Astro Boy. The Studio has just released the first teaser trailer for the movie, which is due in theaters on October 23rd 2009.
Based on the classic anime series by Osamu Tezuka, with a script by Timothy Harris (Twins, My Stepmother Is an Alien, Kindergarten Cop, Space Jam) Astro Boy is set in the futuristic Metro City, and follows a young robot with incredible powers, created by a scientist to be in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving man’s expectations, Astro Boy embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and the planet, from alien race and reconcile with the father who rejected him.
Astro Boy features the voices of Kristen Bell, Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland, Matt Lucas, Eugene Levy, Nathan Lane, Sterling Beaumon, Madeline Carroll, and Freddie Highmore as the robot hero.
