With the summer season looming, major Hong Kong blockbusters are due to come out…at least in Asia. Hopefully we’ll get some of these films in the U.S. also.
Invisible Target, the latest action-packed cop thriller by prolific Hong Kong director Benny Chan, is poised for a pan-Asian release scheduled for July 2007.
The movie is produced by Universe Films, which previously collaborated with Chan on action hits such as Divergence and Heroic Duo. After four months of shooting in Hong Kong, it is currently in post-production.
The new picture promises realistic action fight sequences with the stunts performed by the cast. Hot Hong Kong actors Nicholas Tse, Jaycee Chan and Shawn Yue play three police officers who, driven by different motives, join forces to defeat a gang. Wushu champion Wu Jing and newcomer Elanne Kong co-star.
Produced by Filmko Entertainment, Law Chi Leung’s Kidnap is another cop thriller coming out this summer. Rene Liu plays a police inspector whose young son has been mistakenly kidnapped for his classmate, a millionaire’s son. The main cast also includes Karena Lam and Cheung Chi Lam.
Law Wing Cheong who directed last year’s comedy drama 2 Become 1, returns to the screen this summer with Hooked On You. Through the life of a fishmonger, the Media Asia production follows a decade of changes in Hong Kong since the 1997 handover. Miriam Yeung and Eason Chan lead the cast.
