Mr. Brooks looks very Talented Mr. Ripley-ish. I mean, strictly based on the marketing materials and photos I’ve seen anyway. I am mildly excited about the film (I love a good thriller). It’s coming out this summer also, so it mst have some gusto behind it, to get put in theaters during the crowded summer market.
The story follows a successful businessman (Kevin Costner), who is a generous philanthropist, loving father and devoted husband. The only problem is, he has a murderous alter ego, that is an insatiable serial killer (William Hurt plays the alter ego…I think). Demi Moore plays a tough detective whose devotion to her job catches the attention and respect of the serial killer she’s hunting, which leads to a symbiotic relationship. Mr. Brooks is a man who has managed to keep his two incompatible worlds from intersecting by controlling his cunning, wicked alter ego, Marshall (Hurt), whom he blames for his wrongdoings.
But now, as Mr. Brooks succumbs to another murderous urge, an amateur photographer (Dane Cook) witnesses the crime. Suddenly Brooks finds himself entangled in the dark agenda of an opportunistic bystander, as well as hunted by the unorthodox and tenacious detective Tracy Atwood (Moore). Can Mr. Brooks outsmart his adversaries and conceal his shocking double life from his wife (Marg Helgenberger) and daughter, (Danielle Panabaker) or will someone expose his crimes and his identity once and for all?
